pH: What Does It Mean? In short, it’s how acidic or alkaline your body is. Your saliva should test at around 7.4 on pH testing paper strips made for that purpose–slightly alkaline. Most people don’t. A too-acidic body affects every cell, every tissue, and every function of the body, provides a fertile terrain for bacteria and other microbes, and creates a hardened, protective shell out of each cell wall that shields the biological matter from acid burn while keeping metabolic wastes trapped inside and nutrients out, and in general creates an unhealthy environment on which disease feeds and grows.

pH is the abbreviation for “potential hydrogen”. It is the measure of the acid level in your body fluids. The higher the pH reading, the more alkaline and oxygen rich the fluid is. The lower the pH reading, the more acidic and oxygen deprived the fluid is. The pH range is from 0 to 14, with 7.0 being neutral. Anything above 7.0 is alkaline, anything below 7.0 is considered acidic.

Human blood normally stays in a very narrow pH range right around ( 7.35 – 7.45 ). Below this range means symptoms and disease. If blood pH moves to much below 6.8, cells stop functioning. The ideal pH balance for a healthy body is slightly more alkaline than acid measuring 7.4.

0 is acid — pH 7.4 healthy — over 7 to 14 is alkaline

If you have a health problem, most likely you are acidic. Research shows that unless the body’s pH level is slightly alkaline, the body cannot heal itself. So, no matter what type of method you choose to use to take care of your health problem, it won’t be effective until the pH level is up. If your body’s pH is not balanced, you cannot effectively assimilate vitamins, minerals and food supplements. Your body’s pH affects everything.

The alkaline level is very important because research has already proven that disease & illness cannot survive in an alkaline state and yet they thrive in an acidic environment. The body has to have a balanced pH like most living things on earth or it does not function correctly.

An acidic balance will decrease the body’s ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients, decrease the energy production in the cells, decrease it’s ability to repair damaged cells, decrease it’s ability to detoxify heavy metals, make tumor cells thrive, and make it more susceptible to fatigue and illness. An acidic pH can occur from, an acid forming diet, emotional stress, toxic overload, and/or immune reactions or any process that deprives the cells of oxygen and other nutrients. The body will try to compensate for acidic pH by using alkaline minerals. If the diet does not contain enough minerals to compensate, a build up of acids in the cells will occur.

Self-Test Your pH Level:

This simple pH self-test (using inexpensive litmus paper, available in health food and drug stores) can tell you within minutes whether or not you are acidic or alkaline. This will give a reflection of your state of health. (pHydrion brand is a role of paper with the chart included–some go up to 8.0.)

How to test your pH level:


1. Perform upon waking up or two hours after having anything in your mouth.

2. Swallow the saliva in your mouth, and then suck new saliva from below your tongue (there are two saliva glands below the tongue). Repeat 2 more times (the purpose is to test saliva that is closest to the blood).

3. Transfer saliva to a strip of Litmus paper (Do Not Put Paper In Mouth), wait 20 seconds, and compare the resulting color to the pH color chart below.

Check Your Results:

~ If your pH is 7.5, your body fluids are in the healthy range, meaning that, for the moment at least, you are not mineral deficient.

~ If your pH is between 6.0 and 6.5, you are becoming acidic and may be developing one or more of the over 200 degenerative diseases.

~ If your pH is below 6.0, then you are highly acidic, very mineral deficient, and have possibly developed at least one degenerative disease.

Our Drinking Water: The quality of drinking water which has surface water as its source is steadily deteriorating because of pollutants and acid rain. Even ground water is becoming acidic.


Poor quality water may have been acidified by bacteria, algae, chloroform (from chlorination), nitrates and not least, dangerous heavy metals, for example cadmium and aluminum. These pollutants may come from factory discharges, agriculture, sewer pipes, water mains and acid rain.

Balancing the pH is a major step toward well-being. An overly acidic pH level in the body is the primary indicator of Calcium Deficiency Disease. Scientists have discovered that the body fluids of healthy people are alkaline (high pH) whereas the body fluids of sick people are acidic (low pH).

Why Many People Have Disease:

According to the research of Dr. Enderlein, total healing of chronic illness only takes place when and if the blood is restored to a normal, slightly alkaline pH.

There are two factors that are ALWAYS present with cancer no matter what else may be present. Those two factors are Acid pH and Lack of Oxygen. Can we manipulate those two factors that always have to be present for cancer to develop and by doing so will that help reverse the cancer? If so, we need to learn how to manipulate those two factors.

Cancer needs an acid and low oxygen environment to survive and flourish within. Terminal cancer patients are around 1000 times more acidic than normal healthy people. The vast majority of terminal cancer patients possess a very low body pH. Why?

In the absence of oxygen, glucose undergoes fermentation to lactic acid. This causes the pH of the cell to drop from between 7.3 to 7.2 down to 7 and later to 6.5 in more advanced stages of cancer and in metastases the pH drops to 6.0 and even 5.7 or lower. Our bodies simply can not fight disease if our body pH is not properly balanced.

The normal human cell has a lot of molecular oxygen and a slightly alkaline pH. The cancer cell has an acid pH and lack of oxygen. Cancer cells cannot survive in an oxygen rich environment. Again, the higher the pH reading, the more alkaline and oxygen rich the fluid is. Cancer and all diseases hate oxygen / pH balance. Proper alkalinity pH of the blood ( 7.35 – 7.45 ) is critical for the overall health of the body. In other words …Alkalize or Die. It’s that important.

That means changing to an alkaline-forming diet and supplements, calcium in particular, that help alkalize the body fluids. Calcium is best absorbed from calcium-rich foods: (For some reason, carrots aren’t on the list of foods, but it is very high in calcium in a bio-available source.)

Calcium Inhibitors

  1. Coffee, soft drinks, and diuretics.
  2. Excesses of protein, especially meat.
  3. Refined sugar or too much of any concentrated sweetener or sweet-flavored food.
  4. Alcohol, marijuana, cigarettes.
  5. Too little or too much exercise.
  6. Excess salt.
  7. The Solanum genus of vegetables. (Tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, and bell peppers contain the calcium inhibitor solanine.)

Calcium supplements from “metallic mineral” sources such as rock and shell are hard to absorb. Take them 2 or 3 times a day instead of all at one time in an acid drink like lemon or grape juice which has been further acidified with apple cider vinegar (best with the “mother” in it, from health food stores) or vitamin C crystals (from the most natural source possible) added to the drink. HCL (hydrochloric acid–digestive aid) and other digestive aids such as digestive enzymes and pancreatic enzymes help absorption of these and other foods. At night, take a tablespoon of cod liver oil and the same of cold-pressed peanut oil for Vitamin D and other elements for absorption. Add cherries and alfalfa to this, and it becomes a treatment for arthritis, also.

Drink water after the acid drink to neutralize it’s effect on the teeth. Acid juices become alkaline-forming foods after assimilation, but the immediate effect on the teeth is acidic, and not good for tooth enamel. Water neutralizes the effect immediately.



5.5-6.0 State of health is mildly poor or very poor. Anxiety or chronic stress could also be dominating the physiology. If mental/emotional factors are not the cause, improving diet, detoxification and exercise will move the values up to the correct range.

6.2-7.0 Usually indicates that emotions are not getting the best of physiology. This range improves more easily with improvement in diet, a detoxification program and some exercise where there was not enough before. “Improving diet” for those with a pH below 7.0 means eating 70% or more foods from the alkaline-ash* list of foods daily.

7.2-8.0 Diet isn’t a major problem unless stably above 7.4 Vegetarians commonly fall in this high pH range and can be headed toward exhaustion. Worry and anxiety can be overriding the positive benefits they get from their good diets. When worry and too much stress is not the case, the physical handling is to include more rice cereals and other acid-ash in their diets to tone down the pH. (See acid-ash and alkaline-ash foods list, attached.) Also, mild detoxification and exercise may be of benefit to improve conditions.

Acid-ash / alkaline ash: The ash factor means when food is burned or metabolized by the body, what is it’s pH value – acid or alkaline. Some foods, oranges or apple cider vinegar, for instance, are acid before metabolizing and alkalizing afterwards.

A normal healthy diet should include 20% acid-forming foods and 80% alkaline-forming foods. Unfortunately, in this country that ratio is usually just the opposite. Those who are exceptionally physically active can eat more acid-forming foods without upsetting the balance, but for those with sedentary lifestyles, a high acid-forming diet becomes harmful. The acid-alkaline balance affects every cell in the body, every tissue, organ and system.

In a free range chicken, the white of the egg has a pH of 9 (highly alkaline). The yoke of the egg has a pH of 6.5 (slightly acidic).

Personal story: In 2000, due to prolonged stress, my adrenals crashed, which cause low thyroid and all of the systemic symptoms that go with glandular insufficiency, including low stomach acid and a pH of 6. and below. Because of the adrenal exhaustion, I already had a congested liver, resulting hives from head to toe, sodium-depleted kidneys shutting down, resulting in swelling, Vit B and calcium deficiency, conjunctivitis, hypoglycemia, what was probably fibromyalgia, heart problems, gall bladder attacks, and a back injury that wouldn’t heal. If I had gone the medical (allopathic) route, the “remedy” would have been cortisone. I’ve seen the result of this kind of “disease management” that alter’s both the quality of life and life span, and wanted no part of it, so planned to go “natural” which is not an instant fix, but holds the potential for healing the glands instead of causing them to atrophy and die by replacing their function with synthetic hormones.

I made progress following the instructions of my naturopath, Dr. Letitia Dick-Watrous, who gave me glandular protomorphogens, diet restrictions based on the Carroll Food Intolerance Test, homeopathic tissue salts based on the same Carroll test for foods, and supplemented B vits using nutritional yeast as advised. I went on a 3-day fast as she instructed, although it took many months to get through (almost) successfully, and also did hydrotherapy at home. I took calcium, but only in a manner that assured it would stay “in solution’ (liquefied) and not end up as calcium deposits. I also added digestive enzymes, HCL, and pancreatic enzymes to help with digestion.

Because my attempt at fasting was not completely satisfactory, I improvised with some detoxing methods starting with Hulda Clark’s instructions for the liver/gallbladder flush. However, she advised at the very least doing a parasite cleanse before that, which had unexpected results. Just as I finished the biggest dose in the protocol, pain in my neck and shoulder that had plagued me for 15 years suddenly ended, never to return. (Who knew?) The first cleanse ended 23 months of torment from hives, although the other protocols had reduced them by half, but never enough until a load of stones were removed. I’ve done about 10 flushes, and the last 3 have yielded none.

All this time, even though I followed alkaline-forming diets, drank lemon and lime juice, apple cider vinegar, added more calcium, took supplements that should have raised my pH, it never budged from 6. While it was low, I developed inflammatory arthritis in the area of my unhealed back injury, then two “lumps” that I removed with escharotic salves, and then gum disease.

2005: In desperation, I was finally able to get another type of supplement that was promoted as something that would raise the pH while remineralizing the body and normalizing electrolytes …seawater. ( ) and that finally made a difference. I started the seawater therapy in late September or October, but ran out of testing strips early on and couldn’t follow my progress. However, other benefits (I’ve kept a running account on another page) became apparent, so I continued. In late November, I added the Budwig protocol, using tofu, ground flaxseeds and seed oil (with honey, unsweetened, frozen berries and almond milk to make a thick, delicious shake).

Finally, a few days before Christmas ’05, I got testing strips but couldn’t believe my eyes so I tested 3 days in a row. On December 24th, I finally decided it wasn’t just a testing fluke or error. My pH was right at 7. I am still aiming for 7.4, but am thrilled to get out of the cancer range after 5 years of trying, and to have so many remaining symptoms seemingly just melt away. The most progress occurred with the seawater before I started the Budwig oil+protein mix, but I can’t discount Budwig as a contributing factor to my rapid improvement.

Budwig’s formula reportedly makes essential oils bio-available, particularly for those with liver problems who have difficulty processing oils, and in doing so fixes faulty cells, cell walls, and brings the electrical charge that attracts oxygen back into a cell muddied by trans fatty acids (hydrogenated oils) and trapped metabolic wastes. Seawater, with it’s organic minerals in full range and proper ratios, feeds the cells, so I suspect that fixing and feeding them worked together. An acidic pH reportedly affects the ability of the cell to take in nutrients and dispose of wastes, so that would always be a factor in health. And seawater? …what an amazing “supplement.” Read the academic website listed above and look at the mind-boggling photos from the French medical archives. Diluted seawater is so closely related to blood plasma as to be interchangeable, and was used for far more acute conditions in the early 1900’s than one could imagine.

The distressing fact is that somebody kept this information hidden at very high levels, because the storm this therapy made in Europe created not a ripple of media coverage in the U.S. or I suspect even Dr. Baroody would have something to say on the subject of seawater therapy for alkalizing the body by addressing mineral deficiencies and imbalances in the most natural way possible. Besides that, seawater has some living property (like blood) that defies complete analysis, adding something “magical” to the mix.–DJT

Some people will need to reduce the amounts to a minimum to avoid extreme Herxheimer side effects

1. Soak 3 average sized non GE/GMO lemons for about 10 minutes in water with 10 tablespoons of vinegar or 100gr of see salt added. Then scrub each lemon thoroughly to rid it of whatever the growers have sprayed on it.
2. Cut the lemons with skin and pips in pieces and put them in a strong mixer blender
3. Add 3 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive oil and 3 cups of water ( or
